CPA Australia’s policy team advocates for the interests of the accounting profession,
members and the public. Here is some of their recent work.
“The issue is not that Australia needs to redesign the audit market.
The issue is that regulators do not have equivalent direct oversight
of all audit firms, particularly partnerships. A well-designed firm-level
registration regime could bring all audit firms within ASIC’s remit,
regardless of their legal structure.”

Firm oversight
CPA Australia’s submission to Treasury argues Australia’s audit
oversight has a firm-level regulatory gap: rules are built around
individual auditors, not the firms that set governance and quality
systems. It recommends closing that gap through registration or
licensing, rather than forcing firms to incorporate, split their
operations or rotate audit firms. CPA Australia audit and assurance
