What sets high-performing teams
apart from their peers? According to
social psychologist Ron Friedman,
“superteams” share three strengths.
They manage time, energy and
attention effectively, and they
collaborate well. The third, which
is the focus of this video, is that they
constantly build new skills and improve.
Friedman says this requires a willingness
to take risks and learn from failure.
Superteams experiment regularly,
seek feedback and reward innovation,
which encourages people to try new
things, he says. Friedman shares the
strategies they use, from effective
feedback conversations to embracing
a “progress mentality”.

What it means to build a truly

The state of AI in 2026:
On the road to ROI
In this episode of Beyond the To-Do List,
organisational psychologist Liane Davey
examines the toll of mental and
emotional weight. She argues that
“thought load” — cognitive demands,
emotional burdens and depleted energy
reserves — contributes to burnout more
than workload. Davey outlines simple
ways to manage it, including scheduling
high-priority tasks at times when
creativity and energy are at their peak.
Other tips include managing and
learning from emotions, and identifying
activities that restore energy based
on individual preferences. This is an
interesting discussion for anyone feeling
overwhelmed by the professional
workload they are carrying.
About 40 per cent of the global
population lives within 100 km of the
coastline, in areas that generate 30 to
50 per cent of global GDP. Yet climate
change and industrial impacts are
threatening the “blue economy”.
This TIME article advocates for industries
that draw value from the ocean, such
as shipping and fishing, to shift from
extractive business models toward
“a more resilient and equitable form
of prosperity”. It flags opportunities
that might stem from a net-positive,
regenerative blue economy, alongside
challenges like cross-border governance.
The article raises thought-provoking
questions about balancing the needs of
nature, communities and the economy.
The latest McKinsey survey on the
state of AI summarises responses
from 1719 participants across
97 countries. It reveals significant
uptake of AI chatbots, as well
as software coding agents and
agentic tools — many of which
organisations are developing in-house.
Notably, 80 per cent of respondents
say AI has improved productivity,
while more than one-third report
a meaningful financial impact.
Other benefits relate to innovation,
customer and employee satisfaction,
and competitiveness. These findings
offer business leaders a useful
benchmark for assessing their
own AI adoption.
