Is using ChatGPT to write your

TIME: Is Using ChatGPT to Write Your Essay Bad for Your Brain? New MIT Study Explained
CLICK TO LAUNCH VIDEO IN A NEW WINDOW
A recent TIME article questioned
whether ChatGPT harms critical
thinking skills. It cited an MIT study
where participants were divided into
three groups that used ChatGPT, search
engines or only their own knowledge
to write essays. The study found that
ChatGPT users had the lowest brain
engagement and underperformed at
neural, linguistic and behavioural levels.
In this video, the study’s lead author
delves deeper into the topic, explaining
how further research showed that
ChatGPT can augment performance
when used at the right time.

What your calendar says
about you
The relationship between
divorce and house prices
The private capital boom
This episode of The Smarter
Accountant Podcast examines what
a person’s calendar says about their
schedule, priorities and thought
patterns. Host Dawn Goldberg, a time
management coach for accountants,
describes how overfilled schedules
often create the illusion of productivity
while increasing stress and burnout
risk. She reviews a client’s calendar
and dissects how what’s within is tied
directly to how they think and feel.
She then discusses why the brain
is wired to encourage overworking
and suggests practical strategies
for regaining control. This episode
is valuable for anyone who wants
to make better use of their time and
build healthy work–life boundaries.
In Australia, house prices have risen
by around 38 per cent in the past
five years. Generally, higher costs
of living and the associated financial
stress are linked to negative outcomes
for households. However, the national
divorce rate is at its lowest level since
the introduction of no-fault divorce
in the mid 1970s. In this article,
University of Sydney researchers
investigate whether these trends
are connected, focusing on the impact
of unanticipated changes or “shocks”
in housing price growth. This article
shares their findings, revealing that
higher-than-expected price growth
may keep some people in marriages
they would otherwise leave.
Retail investor allocations to private
capital are projected to skyrocket from
US$80 billion (A$121.3 billion) to
US$2.4 trillion (A$3.64 trillion) by 2030
according to Deloitte’s 2025 Financial
Services Industry Predictions report.
This dramatic shift signals a
reconfiguration of wealth management,
with firms expected to rethink access,
liquidity and product design.
The report also forecasts that
tokenised currency platforms will
handle 25 per cent of large-value
cross-border payments by decade’s
end, underscoring the rapid
maturation of digital infrastructure.
In insurance, traditional risk models
are giving way to “predict and
prevent” services, with fee-based
offerings becoming mainstream.
