Organisational expert Joe Davis
suggests that generous leaders
are able to connect deeply with
employees and consequently drive
high performance. In this TED Talk,
Davis analyses three traits that define
generous leaders — strong listening
skills, a willingness to be vulnerable
and demonstrating humanity — using
examples to rationalise and illustrate
each. Davis proposes that such
qualities mark the difference
between good managers and
exceptional leaders whose staff
will follow them anywhere.

CEO dismissals and financial
restatements
Inside the fiercely private
world of family offices
Enhancing workflow and
efficiency with Rob Nixon
How do financial restatements
influence CEO dismissals? Researchers
set out to answer this question
by analysing data from S&P 1500 firms
between 2000 and 2018. Their
findings, published in the Australian
Accounting Review, suggest that
boards’ growing attentiveness
to ethical issues has increased the
likelihood of CEO termination
post-restatement. Additionally, they
found CEOs of underperforming firms
are more susceptible to removal from
office, whereas strong performance
provides some protection. These
discoveries illuminate the connections
between financial performance,
ethical governance and board
dynamics in CEO turnovers.
This survey, conducted by the
Wharton Global Family Alliance
(WGFA), shines a spotlight on
family businesses across 21
countries. It shares insights into
asset allocation trends, financial
performance and environmental,
social and governance investments.
It also pinpoints several challenges
family businesses face, relating to
succession planning and technology
management. Only 12 per cent
of respondents expected their
next generation to work in family
offices in the future. The WGFA’s
findings deliver interesting
takeaways for both family-owned
organisations and the professionals
that support them.
In this episode of Thrivecast,
host Jason Blumer speaks with
profitability expert Rob Nixon about
historical shifts that have impacted
accounting efficiency. They explore
how firms can leverage technology
to maximise profitability. In particular,
Nixon focuses on strategies that
enable firm owners to redesign their
business for long-term wealth
creation, which he calls “investor
level”, where owners no longer
operate within their business. He
shares actionable tips to achieve this
objective, touching on value-based
pricing, workflow management
software, outsourced marketing
and AI tools.
