WORK SMART
TECH STACK
Game-changing
travel tech
Whether jetting off overseas or headed interstate for the day,
packing the right tech is a ticket to stress-free business travel.
Words Adam Turner
Travelling for work sounds glamorous, but
business trips are often all work and no play.
That is why it pays to pack the right tech
in a carry-on, to help stay comfortable
and productive on the move.
Here are some helpful devices to consider.
If travelling regularly, it is worth investing
in a compact laptop. A 13- to 15-inch screen
tends to be the sweet spot — any smaller
and it is too cramped to be productive, while
any larger it tends to be too hefty to carry
around. Look for something thin and light that
has a long battery life, with bonus points for
a backlit keyboard so it is easy to keep working
after they dim the cabin lights. If you need
extra screen space, consider a portable laptop
screen extender.
It is a good idea to invest in good quality
noise-cancelling headphones to block out both
the roaring jet engines and crying babies.
While high-end earbuds should suffice for short
interstate trips, long-haul international flights
call for over-ear noise-cancelling headphones
that, as a bonus, often come with cables and
adaptors for plugging into the in-flight
entertainment system.
If travelling with BYO entertainment, it is
important to plan ahead. Many streaming
music and video services allow downloads
to a computer, smartphone or tablet, to enable
offline viewing while in the air.
