Money personality types
This Big Think video ponders
how personality impacts financial
behaviour. Financial psychologists
and therapists identify four money
personalities: avoidance, worship,
status and vigilance, and propose that
the financial risks and opportunities
people pursue are influenced by the
category they identify with most.
Experts urge viewers to balance their
beliefs for the sake of their mental and
financial health, emphasising the
importance of self-awareness when
making financial decisions.

Picture content in annual

When layoffs are a thing
of the past
PwC’s second annual
State of Decarbonization report
Do companies use pictures in annual
reports to enhance or obscure their
financial situation? A group of
researchers set out to answer this
question, publishing their findings
in the Australian Accounting Review.
They concluded that images can
influence readers’ perceptions
of a firm’s economic performance.
Images of people, for example, may
be associated with higher profitability,
because they portray a greater sense
of responsibility and accountability.
Conversely, an excess of pictures
or complex images leads to perceptions
of lower profitability. This study
provides interesting observations about
how firms use pictures as a tool in their
corporate disclosure strategies.
Hiring and firing employees is costly
and can damage a company’s
reputation and morale. This episode
of Imagine This… questions whether
businesses could prevent layoffs by
building nimble teams that adapt
as strategies change. Kevin Kelley
from Boston Consulting Group
highlights the risks of siloed teams,
which hinder leaders from
anticipating and responding to
change. He suggests implementing
initiatives such as rotation programs
that expose employees to different
areas of a business. In addition,
Kelley considers the role AI could
play in retraining and upskilling
workers, and shares ideas for making
companies more adaptable.
PwC’s 2025 State of Decarbonization
report shows that 67 per cent of
companies are on pace to achieve
their Scope 1 and 2 reduction targets,
with 37 per cent even increasing their
ambitions. In contrast, only 16 per cent
reduced their targets. More small
companies are also making
commitments, as supplier
engagement efforts take hold. This
global report tracks companies’
progress on sustainability and
identifies the factors that contribute
to successful decarbonisation. It also
encourages businesses to look for
opportunities to transform their
climate commitments into a
competitive advantage.
