Scammers target finance teams
Scammers have finance teams in their sights with results
of the latest Targeting scams report, produced by Australia’s
National Anti-Scam Centre, showing payment redirection
scams surged more than 66 per cent in 2024 to reach
A$152.6 million in losses.
False billing scams, where fake invoices slip through
accounts payable teams, caused A$27.8 million in losses.
The report also shows that businesses of all sizes may
be targeted, with small businesses reporting A$13.1 million
in direct losses in 2024 due to scams.
On the positive side, scam losses last year totalled
A$2 billion, which is a 25 per cent decrease from 2023.
