Data centre dilemmas
As the power needs of data centres
continue to rise, it is projected that
an average of US$4.9 billion may
need to be invested to make global
data storage operations sustainable.
That’s one of the findings from the
latest Decarbonizing Data report from
data storage company Seagate.
The report also shows that 95 per cent
of data-centre professionals surveyed
are concerned about the environmental
impact of data storage. Top concerns
include high energy use, carbon
emissions and the large amount of
raw material they require. 94 per cent
of respondents reported that their
company faced increasing data storage
needs, and 97 per cent anticipated that
the growth of artificial intelligence
would further impact demand.

The power of people
in customer service
What should businesses do to build
customer loyalty? The value of good
service should not be underestimated,
as global research from Accenture shows
87 per cent of people are likely to avoid
a brand after just one negative experience.
The research reveals that companies
have prioritised investing in technologies
to reduce costs and improve operational
efficiency with little focus on the customer
experience. Only 18 per cent of
respondents say technology had
significantly improved their service
experiences, and they overwhelmingly
prefer dealing with people.
Almost 80 per cent of customers say
they prefer direct interaction with
a customer service agent and 33 per cent
say that dealing with a human employee
is essential to resolve any problem
effectively.
