CPA AUSTRALIA
Ethics and trust are built
through accountability
Welcome to the August 2026 issue of INTHEBLACK.
At a time when confidence in institutions is being tested across
many sectors of society, the role of professional accountants has
never been more important. Our profession is built on something
that is both invaluable and hard-earned: trust.
Every day, clients entrust us with sensitive information.
Employers rely on our judgement. Investors, regulators and
the wider community depend on the integrity of the financial
information and advice that informs critical decisions.
Trust is earned through consistent actions. It grows when we
demonstrate integrity, exercise sound professional judgement,
safeguard confidentiality and remain objective — particularly when
faced with difficult decisions or competing pressures.
It is a credit to our membership that, in an environment of
growing complexity and competing pressures, the vast majority
of CPA members continue to uphold these values with quiet consistency.
Our APES 110: Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants and the
professional standards that support it are far more than compliance
requirements. They provide the foundation for acting in the public interest
and preserving the confidence that society places in our profession.
Ethics is also embedded in the culture we create. Strong organisations
are shaped by leaders who champion transparency, accountability
and the courage to do what is right. Professional scepticism,
respectful challenge and a willingness to speak up when
concerns arise all help to create environments where integrity
can flourish.
CPA Australia remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding
the highest standards of professional conduct. We continue to support
our members to navigate ethical challenges while strengthening
the trust that defines our profession.
Trust takes years to build, yet it can be lost in a moment.
That is why ethical leadership, accountability and professional
integrity must remain at the heart of everything we do.
Together, we can continue to strengthen the reputation of our
profession and ensure it remains worthy of the trust placed
in it by clients, employers, regulators and the broader community.
