LOYALTY TO LOCAL BUSINESSES
Consumers in Singapore were
encouraged to shop locally
during the pandemic, but has that

A report from Amex shows that

consumers shop locally, only
half feel that supporting local
businesses is very important.
Baby boomers are the most
loyal to local businesses, with
95 per cent shopping often at local
businesses and only 43 per cent at
international ones.
However, almost 60 per cent of
all respondents are concerned that
Singapore’s heritage businesses
will disappear in the next decade.
The top reasons Singapore
consumers choose to shop with
local businesses over international

MONEY
TALKS
There is an art to asking for
a pay rise, and a science
to the ways employers
evaluate such requests.
The FY23-24 Hays
Salary Guide shows
that 84 per cent of
employers view individual
performance as the
most important factor
when considering pay
rise requests. Other
key factors include the
role’s responsibilities
(54 per cent), its external
salary benchmarks
(34 per cent), the
organisation’s performance
(24 per cent) and the level
of expertise (21 per cent).
