CPA AUSTRALIA
Dedication to ethics and
integrity sets us apart
Welcome to the June/July 2024 issue of INTHEBLACK.
The accounting and finance profession has long championed
ethics, integrity and professional standards – and rightly so.
Our role as trusted advisers hinges entirely on upholding
these values.
We remain steadfast in our dedication to upholding the
utmost professional standards of conduct among our members.
Ethical integrity lies at the core of the CPA designation.
CPA Australia has recently strengthened the obligations
for members on ethics by implementing mandatory
professional development requirements. We have developed
a new micro-credential on professional ethics and provide
a complimentary Professional Ethics in Focus course to help
members comply with their ethical obligations.
These initiatives align with the endeavours of the
International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA).
The IESBA determines the benchmarks of ethical conduct for
organisations and professional accountants. It was my pleasure
to host IESBA Chair Gabriela Figueiredo Dias during her recent
visit to Australia, where we delved into the role of ethics
in accounting.
CPA Australia remains actively involved in the Parliamentary
Joint Committee (PJC) on Corporations and Financial Services
Inquiry into Ethics and Professional Accountability. Our contributions,
through submissions and testimonies at hearings, underscore the
significance of modern and effective professional standards.
We will continue to communicate with our members via member
committees and forums, collaborating with key stakeholders to
address any recommendations stemming from the PJC Inquiry.
Advising governments and regulators on matters vital to the
profession and public interest is an honour and a responsibility,
particularly in these critical times. Discover how we are safeguarding
the integrity of the profession in our 2023 Integrated Report.
We are committed to setting the standard with transparency,
accountability and inclusivity as our guiding principles.
