THE FUTURE OF
WORK IS GREEN
As the transition to net zero gathers pace, the number
of “green” jobs is on the rise across the globe.
In the pathway set out in the International Energy Agency’s
Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario, an estimated
30 million jobs could be created in clean energy, efficiency
and low-emissions technologies by 2030.
LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report 2023 shows the
median LinkedIn hiring rate for workers with at least one
“green” skill is 29 per cent higher than the workforce average.
The finance industry is a critical enabler of the energy
transformation. However, according to the report, only one in
15 finance workers globally has the required skills.
Change is under way, with skills in carbon accounting,
carbon credits, emissions trading, impact assessment and
sustainability reporting among the fastest growing in the US
and the European Union.
