CPA AUSTRALIA
The path to reconciliation
Welcome to the February issue of INTHEBLACK.
As part of CPA Australia’s ongoing commitment to achieving
positive social change, I’m delighted to announce our support for
the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation to Australian
people and organisations to walk with Australia’s First Nations
people on the path to reconciliation, in support of establishing a
First Nations Voice in the Constitution of Australia.
Sharing our stories allows us to understand one another.
Knowing someone’s background gives us an appreciation and
understanding of their experiences. This connection allows us to
move ahead as a collective.
This progress is only possible if we can openly discuss where
people have come from, the challenges they experience and what
they need.
Accounting professionals are trusted advisers in our
communities. We must use our collective voice to support
inclusion.
The cornerstone of the accounting profession is ethics. Our code
of ethics is at the heart of who we are, how we work and how we
live. Part of being ethical is treating people fairly.
At CPA Australia, we have had an inclusion and diversity policy
for many years. Our values of excellence and inclusion must go
beyond how we work internally to shape our external actions.
In 2021, we held our first truth sharing panel, with participation
from First Nations CPA Australia members and staff. We then
created our first Indigenous Advisory Group to understand the
issues and take practical action.
Supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart is part of living
our values and an important next step for our organisation in the
spirit of meaningful reconciliation.
I encourage you to read and share our Response to the Uluru
Statement from the Heart, which will be available on our website
later this month.
