GENERATIONAL
DIVIDE
There’s more to life than work for
Malaysia’s Generation Z.
44%
of HR leaders
believe their
organisations do not
offer compelling
career paths.
Randstad Malaysia’s 2022 Employer
Brand Research report reveals that
almost 30 per cent of workers aged
between 18 and 25 have changed
jobs to improve their work-life
balance. This compares to 21 per cent
of Gen X workers, who report
working fewer overtime hours to
improve their work-life balance.
Meanwhile, millennials are likely
to negotiate their roles and
responsibilities to stay with the same
employer. Randstad’s report notes
that this may indicate that they
prioritise job stability. Some of these
negotiations include job rotation,
career advancement opportunities
or a more manageable workload.

Just over 10 per cent of workers in Singapore
strongly believe that they can bring their true
self to work. This compares to 27 per cent of
workers globally, according to the report on
PwC’s Global Workforce Hopes and Fears
Survey 2022.
The survey shows that only 12 per cent –
compared with 25 per cent globally –
strongly agree that their jobs are fulfilling.
Should this be a warning sign for
employers in Singapore? PwC’s research has
uncovered five key factors that cause people
to stay in their job, with job fulfilment and
authenticity high on the list.
